(Ricardo Montalbán voice) “Rrrich Corrrrinthian Anxiiietyyy”

Oof, the game that was hyperfixation candy for the last two nights is brain poison tonight. Friggen picky toddler brain

There’s a big family of squirrels living in a tree outside my office window. The tree is currently offering tons of little red berries.

I can only get a decent picture of one, but like 6 or 8 of them are all happily hanging upside down munching on berries.

@quinnanya This is amazing! (I love the series, just finished the last book this year)

@vertigo @requiem Dang, it's been years & years, but I used to live in ARexx on my A1200

I think a super interesting thing about this news of a bike lane removal protest in is the photos of the bikes.

These are folks who have workhorse vehicles they use to get kids and stuff around. This bike lane isn't just a woo-woo nonsense feel-good thing, it's an actual get-stuff-done piece of infrastructure. I don't think folks in positions of power in the city really get that.

I'm not the most strident of bike activists, but I do like to repeatedly mention that we went years without a car thanks to a pair of cargo e-bikes we bought near the start of the pandemic.

Can't do everything on them - and some things are possible yet wet & annoying on them - but a surprising amount of shuttling around the city is faster & easier on a bike. Especially one with pedal assist for the hills.

But, having moved to from Detroit, one of my favorite things here is that having a bike and going without a car is actually moderately practical.

And the city has bikes for rent just about every 2 blocks. They're not the cheapest thing, but they are pretty capable little e-bikes. I've used them a few times in a pinch when I'd bussed somewhere and I needed to get back faster than the bus routes would allow

@fsnk We ended up leasing a car again because it looked like one of us was going to have a regular commute to the suburbs. But, that changed, and we're really glaring at that lease since we still only use the car rarely. Renting occasionally would probably work just great for us

@squeevening I stab myself with a candy cane at least once a year, usually more

That thing where I think I'm a fan of a band and then realize I haven't heard any of their new albums within the last 7-10 years - or even was aware that there were new albums. 😅

What's worse is when what I think of as the "new" album is from the 90s because I listened to it in college when it came out

@Vaguery I have indeed also encountered this! I tend to think it's a glitch in the matrix and not just my own befuddlement

To be specific with today's realization: "Dream Theater announce the return of drummer Mike Portnoy"

a) I didn't realize he'd left and they'd done albums without him

b) There are at least 10 "new" albums (not counting live albums) that I haven't heard

Okay, I feel only marginally better: The last "new" album I heard is from 2003 rather than 1993. Just 20 years of obliviousness not 30.

Saw too many tiktok ads and now I suddenly NEED a wifi-controlled telescope that I can mount to my roof. They didn't even advertise that, but the ads Gave Me Ideas

I don't need nor can I afford an actual rooftop observatory dome, but I'd like one

homedome.com/6-domes/

I haven't even had a telescope since high school, and it was a cheap thing that barely qualified, but I miss standing out in the driveway with it

It's raining and yet I hear a leaf blower :comfyglare:

@jalefkowit THEY GOT A PEPPER BAR

Ripping some 2001 era Robotech DVDs and it makes me miss when I used to live in walking distance of an anime rental store

@dozigden I remember watching them with roommates for awhile, back then.

I'm annoyed, because back in the day I missed one (1) boxed set for discs 3 & 4, so I'm missing the second extras DVD. :blobsadleft:

@MichaelKlamerus Heh, yup it was! Wizzywig in Ann Arbor, in fact!

I used to go all the time when they were in a tiny place upstairs from The Village Apothecary on University Ave

@gregorlove.com Oof, yeah selection bias is a hell of a drug

Going to shows the past few years, it seems like nobody is masking anymore. But the reality is that Covid cautious people are being pushed out of these spaces. There’s a selection bias at crowded events.

We have more DVDs than BluRays, which seems weird to me. Streaming seemed to roar in as a thing before BDs ever really took off. Or maybe I just got better at pirating shit first (in Minecraft)
