So there's a Mass Effect adult-sized onesie. I kinda want it, but I cannot imagine any size they have will fit me. I have been burned repeatedly in this cozy product category as a 6'1" Not Small human

mental health +/-

I can harmlessly transfer spiders and bugs to less objectionable places. I can calmly drive along treacherous mountain roads. I can be stoic about nearly any medical procedure.

But you know what just absolutely wrecks my shit? Making a phone call. Every time. Just absolute bowel churning anxiety. I hate it.

re: mental health +/-

Like, need to make a change to your account? We don't have a web site or answer email. Just give us a call! (seriously, fuck you to the depths of hell or the center of the sun)

re: mental health +/-

@danhon Sure!

re: mental health +/-

Weirdly, I do better in-person than with a phone call. Also, I don't tend to have this problem on Zoom. Just the phone.

My suspicion is that it's a lack of cues and so my brain goes off into multiverse quantum computing mode trying to anticipate every possible reaction & outcome in absence of information.

re: mental health +/-

@requiem oh, dang, I haven't even had that kind of experience to explain my deal :oof:

@retronianne oh dang, I was OBSESSED with DAK catalogues as a kid

One of the highest points in my mid-teen life was winning 2nd place in an Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead essay contest and using the prize check to purchase a Tidalwave PS-1000 MS-DOS palmtop computer from the DAK catalog.

It ran on 2 AA batteries and had MS Works installed in ROM. I could write papers and it could call BBSes. I still have it, but I think I killed it a bunch of years ago with a badly-matched DC power adapter.

(i don't write ayn rand essays any more, though)

Ahhhhhhhhh! Here it is, the Palmtop PC sold by DAK for only $499 in 1993 dollars (power adapter and RAM cards sold separately)

Seriously felt like a nerd badass writing papers and crap, out in the sun at a picnic table. I want to say I had a version of Rogue or Nethack running on that thing at some point, too, so I was gaming in class when I should have been taking notes.

I think that DAK Palmtop PC is why, to this day, I am super fond of reflective LCD and e-ink screens

Also, I dated a girl in college who had a Poqet PC. We traded PCMCIA cards with notes written in MS Works. Fuckin nerds.

@evan Oh, no kidding, that's neat! I still kinda want to acquire another one of those little machines someday

@emma Yeah, I feel like I'm still on the quest for something like that. I have an e-ink tablet with a keyboard case now, but it's not really the same. @evan

@enot It really did last most of a week on rechargables with a few hours a day typing away

re: food, stress

@socketwench as your lawyer doctor i recommend you have a hot chocolate

A thing I love in some streaming services is where serving up the ad videos is way more reliable than serving up the actual content for which I opened the app

Like, "oops, the video playback failed, need to reload. oh, you reloaded? here's another pre-roll ad in higher quality than the video you tried to watch"
