Stupid trick for today: I got zimodem firmware flashed on the esp8266 wifi module - that makes it essentially an outgoing wifi modem.

So, now I can connect to the RC2014 from my PC over serial port 1. Then I can "dial" out to a BBS with the wifi modem over serial port 2.

And the BBS that I'm calling is also running on @Wintermute_BBS 's RC2014, so it's turtles all the way down.

If I get a few round tuits, I might even blog about all these shenanigans

@gwachob @Wintermute_BBS Three of em, actually! One via a USB FTDI widget on my laptop, then 2 more on the RC2014

Now, if I can get the Pi Pico VGA terminal working on its own monitor & keyboard, then the RC2014 will be its own little self-contained BBS calling machine.

Also want to play with tossing some file downloads onto my own BBS and see if I can get software onto the RC2014 that way, like in olden days via xmodem and suchlike

If I have the Pi Pico VGA Terminal connected and try doing anything interesting with the wifi modem, I get a BAD INT error and the whole machine crashes.

+++ BAD INT 00H: @0507[0044:0282:1649:0500:FEF4:ED8F:174A]

I vaguely assume this is because they're in conflict over the same serial port. Hoping when I stop using the USB FTDI widget on the PC and switch the VGA terminal over to port 1, all will be happy.

@gwachob I do have a DB-9 serial to USB widget around here somewhere too, but none built into the computer alas

Also, shopping for cheap, small (< 10") VGA monitors to get one step closer to building a little luggable tacklebox setup for this critter

Thinking about doing some more live streaming, but have mostly run out of board to solder for now. May get back to tinkering with my 3018 CNC machine.

Also considering moving the stream inside to the basement and try a few sessions of chill tunes and magazine type-in programs on one old computer or another.

@mos_8502 That would be super keen!

@mos_8502 Oh, I'm unfamiliar... looks like maybe that VT-132 firmware is closed source? ugh

Looking for a spare keyboard and realizing I have way more old PS/2 keyboards than I remembered. And fewer PS/2 to USB converters than I remember.
