I'm in this picture and am unsure if I enjoy my position

Because if you continue on this course, I will be forced to completely switch over to Linux, and neither of us want that. Do you have any idea how annoying that would make me? I would get really into distros. I would lovingly extol the benefits of Pop!_OS to strangers. I would get really into Nix. That’s a demon you need to keep caged.

This latest wave of "fuck windows, get linux on the desktop" feels a lil bit like when folks said "fuck twitter, get on mastodon"? But, I can't imagine it's that huge a wave.

That said, I think I've personally gotten really good at shoving everything I care about onto web services and NAS drives. Games are digital delivery and saves are in the cloud. And, I'm privileged to have gigabit internet.

So, computing environments are pretty low-risk and light-attachment to me these days. Windows, macOS, and Linux are pretty interchangeably annoying. I can format every personal computer in the house and probably be back in business in a couple hours watching TV 🤷‍♂️

I guess, embrace the impermanence of all operating systems?

@darkuncle My t-shirt that says "no hello" sure has a lot of people saying hello

Like, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Linux is super amazing now. It's that other operating systems are also not super amazing now.

Though, I will say, it's impressive as heck that Linux can not only support both my video & sound hardware at the same time now but also actually play all my video games. It used to not be like that and now it is, and that's neat.

(once upon a time, years & years ago, I gave up on desktop linux when it couldn't apparently support both sound & video simultaneously on my PC and I made an iBook purchase in anger at CompUSA to run Mac OS X for the first time. this was, like, in The Year 2000)

re: Booze

@APBBlue You could also make a Oxacan Old Fashioned if you have a little tequila along with that mezcal! thespruceeats.com/oaxaca-old-f

@thegibson flip that table and spin it like a human directional

@thegibson Man, I like that classic NIN sound too

@voltur well, there's the 1980s as a calendar period and then there's "The 80s" @thegibson

@gnomon @oration@mastodon.social The one thing saving me from that shopping spree is my current PC case is a little Fractal thing with no bays. (avoids the PC case section of amazon)

@cypnk JavaScript: Math is hard! :catgooglyfingerguns:

@tankgrrl We did that around here back last Halloween, but we only made it 3 1/2 movies in

@jrconlin I'd rather have this BOTTLE IN FRONT OF ME than a FRONTAL LOBOTOMY! @mookie

Got my ergonomic couch computing setup going

@maddiefuzz Catsby (on the right) isn’t really bitey at all. But Cheddars (on the left) will occasionally communicate with the firm application of teeth to set boundaries. Mostly she’s okay with low-energy squishing though

@voltur "3 word salad" sounds like "3 bean salad" and now I'm hungry

I feel like this song should be depressing but I'm vibing with it

All we have is here and now
(All going to nowhere, to nowhere)

@thegibson Had a meeting with my retirement planner last week. Retirement is set for age 108

@socketwench "retirement" as in being paid a visit by a Blade Runner Unit @thegibson

Now I'm picturing a geriatric Trent Reznor doing One More Album that's all angst about his lack of a retirement plan (except I'd imagine he's too well off these days to worry about that)

@marcprecipice Yeah, like hopping on a bike has several aspects for me, such as: a) exercise b) practical transit and c) getting out of the house to see the city & nature.

Sometimes I'm not as worried about the exercise for a particular ride, so I can thumb the pedal assist on my e-bike up or down at will while still getting my fill of the other aspects. That makes just popping out for a 15-20 mile ride very mentally cheap.

Also, I'm not a competitive sort anyway. So, anyone saying I'm cheating can go argue with a mirror

@bea how else should we be reading books while riding an e-bike? :troll: @marcprecipice

@benbrown The last time I was on-call at a job, I set the tone to be a freight train horn because I was so worried I wouldn't hear it. I heard it once and wanted to smash my phone with a hammer

@benbrown (i don't think i'm an on-call kind of person)

@benbrown same same

@carithlee we noticed you bought a spatula so here's another spatula

@c0debabe Those are neato!

earthbound spoiler?

So I'm playing Earthbound, and I know I have to save the world, but I just discovered I can make a fortune selling chickens?

re: earthbound spoiler?

Also just found a PDF of Nintendo's original Earthbound strategy guide, offered by Nintendo for free?

re: TIL the implications of bananas having no seeds.

@yuki2501 That reminds me of the old Kirk Cameron thing where he was like "bananas are perfectly formed for holding in a human hand and eating. god did that, checkmate atheists!" when, like, the yellow banana we know is a fully human-engineered food plant
