This #tamagotchi also has some weird faces. All teeth when they're happy or eating, pretty shady when they're mad.

Sending an account recovery / forgot password link to a user via ActivityPub "private" message instead of email is a completely terrible idea, right?

Just thinking through building a side project that's fediverse-related and trying to think if I can avoid hooking it up to an email sending service of any kind. Seems like account recovery is the only thing that would need it

Maybe I'll punt for now and say account recovery is "email your sysop out of band and ask nicely for a link"

The other thing I'd thought of is to connect to a Mastodon account via OAuth after initial signup. Then later, repeat that OAuth dance to the same account for local account recovery? eh sounds wonky

I have an opportunity to socialize with nifty people today but alas I’m not in a proper headspace to socialize. 😔 it’s annoying but these conditions rarely align
