@wavebeem ohai there!
@GeoffWozniak :hug: Haba was gorgeous. We lost one of ours to kidney disease too, it's a real bugger
Can you spot the Catsby? #cats
Woke up from dreaming there’s an episode of Farscape where they meet an alternate version of John Crichton with a 70s mustache. Crichton-prime is pissed that alt-Crichton looks so cool, because he tried a mustache like that before and couldn’t pull it off.
@casey FWIW, I think I'm also feeling everything you wrote in that post. The ZIRP, the moving, the over-the-hlll mood (though I'm closer to 50, just 2 years shy).
Like, whew yeah. "The vibes are bad. I'm left wondering how much of that is turbulence and how much of it is... an adjustment."
Been trying to feel out how I feel about work and making things and being online and 😅
@socketwench The little web side project I've been working on lately is maybe 90% server-side pages and 10% client-side vanilla JS web components sprinkled in. It feels, like, both archaic and refreshing?
There are a lot of examples of technology that started out big & clunky and then got streamlined & miniaturized.
I wonder how many pieces of technology either stalled out and turned back toward big & clunky or just started awkward and stayed that way? Like, either because they were fine that way or folks over-complicated them over time
Also saw a tiktok where a guy was comparing corded power tools to cordless and describing how much cheaper & powerful the corded variety were. Almost like the cordless were a ploy to get folks hooked into battery subscriptions.
Made me kind of wonder how hard it would be to build a generic backpack battery & inverter rig for corded tools? Haha joking unless maybe...?
@Osmose Now picturing myself cackling maniacally with a power drill in one hand and a sawzall in the other while my backpack bursts into flames
I kinda want to cite razors as something that went from clunky to streamlined and back to clunky again?
Like, I used to use disposables, and they accumulated features like extra blades and moisturizing strips and vibration (?!)
Then, one day, I got a safety razor handle for my birthday along with a big box of blades. It's been like 7 years and I still haven't run out of blades. Never want to go back to disposables.
@mos_8502 Oh, yeah, I kind of see the safety razor handle as the streamlined point and the disposables are super clunky
@Mossop There's a tiny learning curve, but it's really not bad at all for the benefit
@randomgeek And now, great big folding slabs!
There's a part of me who's delighted that a chunk of my tiktok feed is made up of ads from Chinese industrial machinery companies?
It's like How It's Made, except I often have no idea what's being made
@c0debabe At one point, I'd acquired a bunch of episodes on my Plex server. Sometimes on Sundays we just hit shuffle and mess around with projects on the couch
@nelson that's a fun toot out of context 😅 @thisemailfindsyou
@revengeday @benbrown Dang, those cards make me want to gain entry to something so I can say "I'm in"
Holy shit, this is like the House of Leaves of blog monetization blog posts https://modem.io/blog/blog-monetization/
Like, there's shit happening in this post and I have to reload it and scroll through again and inspect elements to work out exactly what's happening and have I suffered a stroke
@slink "never underestimate the bandwidth of a cargo e-bike full of servers hurtling down the lane"
@mttaggart wait.. i thought the whole reason for mariadb was because... :thinkspin:
That thing where I find a bunch of e-books at my library ready for loan without waiting on a hold and now I can't decide which I want to read first but I'm worried whatever I don't pick will be locked up for weeks :neocat_scream_stare:
@selfsame WARNING: DO NOT STAB STRAW INTO CYBERTRUCK (TM) LIKE CAPRI SUN (TM)
@rgegriff Yeah, I totally bounced off the first paragraph at first, until I was like hey wait what's up with that weird text? And then, against my better judgement, I clicked on some things @erosdiscordia
A thing I just absolutely love (†) about working on sites with component-scoped css-in-js using randomized classnames is that it's so easy (††) to track down where some particular style got introduced by inspecting elements in the browser
(the daggers are for stabbing †††††)
(†) hate
(††) infuriatingly difficult
@quephird no it wasn't shut up i was just in the high school halls last month 💀
Luckily, it's too much of a prude to follow me when I type things like "shitwidget" and "fucknubbin" in log statements

I never quite got into Cohost - and I think that's because I never quite latched onto the vibe there?
Maybe I, in particular, wasn't meant to latch onto it? But, that's okay. There was a vibe there liked by many folks.
This is a thing where I think it would be great if the fediverse developed into many, many archipelagos of islands.
The archipelagos don't need to federate or connect. We don't need a single unified pressure cooker of a network.
I do think it would be good if the archipelagos consist of multiple island instances, though, if only for redundancy & resilience
@HauntedOwlbear YES! it totally is
